I was lucky enough to be able to attend the U.S. Grand Prix at Watkins Glen during the 70's. 1973 then from 1977 through it's final year in 1980. It was a historic time for the Grand Prix, now better know as Formula One, it was a time when you had access to the drivers and could witness wheel to wheel competition from some of the best drivers in the world. We were able to see Mario Andretti. Graham Hill, Sir Jackie Stewart, Niki Lauda, James Hunt, Kiki Roseburg and so many mor ......

This weekend is the 24 Hours of LeMans. I have had the opportunity to cover the Le Mans Classic 5 times but I have not had the opportunity to see the 24 Hour race. I have covered the Classic for Vintage Motorsports Magazine, Classic Motorsports, Sports Car Digest and others. The next Classic is in 2014 and I will be scheduling the event soon. This weekend though, I will be watching as much of the 24 Hour race as possible. It should be another classic race. The photos are ......

Day Four –Tuesday - Evening Evening transit: Daytona Beach, FL to Camden, SC Miles tonight: Monday: 426 Total miles from home: 2,790 The transit from New Orleans was very enjoyable. I-10 was traffic free, and rain free. The Paceman was a delight to travel in. With our afternoon departure from NOLA, we arrived at Daytona Beach having stopped for dinner by an early 11:25PM. The hotel was directly across the street from the speedway, so morning commute was about 4 m ......

Day Two – Sunday - Afternoon Last night distance: 601 miles Total miles from home: 1,407 Last night we drove from South Bend Indiana, to Grisson AFB then onto Birmingham, Alabama. Most of the transit was in heavy rain and the MINI Paceman handled like a dream. At full highway speed, (plus a little) with standing water, the traction of the MINI never failed. It made for a safe and low stress drive. It was sure-footed, comfortable and easy to sit back an ......

If you are reading this, it must be springtime and time for my annual trip around the country on Brock Yates’ One Lap of America. My good friend Bill Guy is not able to join me this year which is a disappointment, but Alex, my son, was able to get out of grad school and our schedules aligned and after 10 years of me going on this event, he is able to join me. It should be a good trip for both of us. For this last few years I have been driving either my 05 MINI, ......

Dan Gurney, the all American racer turns 82 today. It has been my pleasure to meet Dan a few times over the years. Most recently I met him at the Amelia Island Concours, where Dan was in attendance as a judge and member of the GT40 50thanniversary seminar. He is always a gentleman and always willing to take time to talk to you. Happy Birthday Dan! ......

It is almost that time of year again. What time? Time to get ready for another adventure on Brock Yates’ One Lap of America. Many of you may know that Highland Design has been the official photographer for this event since 2003 and this year will be our 11thconsecutive year. For those not fully versed in this motorsports event, just stop by the One Lap of America site for some background and history. At least I will say that it is the brainchild of Brock Yates ......
