Neil Young

Neil Young - Forty years today - January 23, 1973

January 23 , 2013 10:20 AM

On this day, forty years ago, January 23, 1973, Neil Young performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City to a sold out audience. His opening group was Linda Ronstadt.  I had orchestra seats in row 24.  Neil Young played a great set until someone came on stage and handed him a piece of paper.  The note indicated the following:

"At 12:30 Paris time today [Tuesday], January 23, 1973, the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam was initialed by Dr. Henry Kissinger on behalf of the United States, and Special Adviser Le Duc Tho on behalf of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.”

All Neil said  was, "the war is over”.  Which erupted into cheers.  This did not change his song set as he led the band into "Southern Man”.  A memorable evening.
